Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has taken swift action in response to the unfortunate fire incident that engulfed the first residence of former President Shehu Shagari last week.

The Governor, visibly concerned about the historical significance of the burnt house, has directed its total renovation.

Following a personal visit to the site of the inferno to assess the extent of the damage, Governor Aliyu expressed his deep sorrow over the catastrophic incident. He emphasized the historical importance of the residence, not only to Sokoto State but to the entire nation. "To us, this house is of great historical importance, being the first residence of the former Nigeria's first democratically-elected President Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari. It's like a historical monument to the upcoming generation; therefore, we'll renovate this house," he added.

During his visit, the Governor extended his condolences to the family of the late President Shagari, praying to Almighty Allah to prevent the recurrence of such a disastrous event. He expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the fire and urged the family to view it as an act of God.

Recalling the unfortunate incident that occurred on the 18th of this month, where the former President's residence was razed down by fire, resulting in significant property loss, Governor Aliyu was accompanied by prominent figures during his assessment. These included the APC leader in the State, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, Deputy Speaker Kabiru Kware, State APC Chairman Isa Saddiq Achida, Secretary to the State Government Muhammad Bello Sifawa, members of the State Executive Council, and various Special Advisers and Special Assistants.
