The Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu, has vowed to take decisive action against Canada after the Canadian High Commission denied visas to some top government officials.
The Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle, called the decision a disgrace to the entire nation, emphasizing that Nigeria will respond appropriately.
The officials were set to attend an event honoring war veterans, but their visa applications were reportedly rejected without any clear justification.
In a statement issued on Friday by the ministry's Director of Information and Public Relations, Iyogun Sunday, Matawalle expressed deep disappointment, calling the incident both embarrassing and unacceptable.
"This is not just a bureaucratic oversight; it is a direct assault on Nigeria’s national dignity and international standing," Matawalle stated. He further stressed that Nigeria must take a firm stance in global affairs to prevent such treatment in the future.
The government’s response to this diplomatic snoop is expected to be strong, reinforcing Nigeria’s position on the international stage.
