This week marks a crucial juncture for the Supreme Court, as it is slated to hear 21 appeals related to disputes arising from the last governorship election.

The cases pertain to states such as Ebonyi, Plateau, Delta, Adamawa, Abia, Ogun, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, with the hearings scheduled to take place between Monday and Thursday.

Insiders have revealed that the court may issue judgments on previously heard post-election governorship appeals for Kano, Lagos, and other states on Friday.

As per the court's schedule released late on Sunday, January 7, Monday's agenda includes one appeal by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), two by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Chukwuma Odii Ifeanyi, and two appeals by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in Benue state.

On Tuesday, the apex court is set to tackle six appeals, three of which concern Plateau State and involve filings by the PDP, its candidate Nentawe Goshwe, and INEC. Additionally, three appeals related to Delta State will be heard, filed by Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Omo-Agege Ovie Augustine of the APC, and Peta Kennedy of the Labour Party (LP).

Wednesday's docket features four appeals, two of which pertain to Adamawa State, with filings by the candidate of the SDP and a counter-appeal by Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP, the incumbent governor.

Thursday's proceedings comprise six appeals, two of which concern Ogun State and involve Oladipo Adebutu of the PDP and a counter-appeal by Abiodun Adedapo of the APC, the incumbent governor. Additionally, an appeal related to Cross River will be heard, filed by Prof. Sandy Onor of the PDP, along with two appeals regarding Akwa Ibom State, filed by Akpan Udofia of the Young Peoples Party (YPP) and John Akpan Udoedehe of the NNPC.

It has been reported that the court aims to deliver judgments on Friday, covering post-election governorship appeals that have already been heard, including those pertaining to Lagos, Kano, and various other states. This pivotal week holds significant implications for the electoral landscape in these states, and the outcomes of the Supreme Court's decisions will undoubtedly shape the political trajectory moving forward.
