Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has stated that one of the main reasons he wants to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 is to address the country's myriad challenges.
During a Channels TV broadcast on Monday, Wike, who announced his intention in Makurdi on Sunday, claimed he has the potential to save the country from its challenges.
Wike claims that his love for the country fueled his desire to run for the highest political post, adding that he cannot stand by and watch the country fall apart while he has the capacity to save it.
Governor Wike, who is running on the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) platform, said that his government had done well in Rivers and that if elected president, he would do the same for Nigeria.
"I want to be President of Nigeria because we are currently in a crisis, and I want to offer myself to the people of this country to fix all of the problems," he stated.
Because I know that, as a man who loves this nation and is committed to its progress, I can't stand by and let this country deteriorate.
"I will tackle challenges as Governor of Rivers State." And, in my opinion, should we just close our eyes and let this country run its course? No, I say. So I'm going to volunteer so that I may help. "
Wike stated in Makurdi that he has the capacity to correct the wrongs committed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
