The Madina Quarters community in Bauchi was plunged into sorrow and grief on Sunday following a devastating house fire that claimed the lives of two young children, Zainab Bashir Muhammad (Hibba) and Ummu Salma Bashir, aged 7 and 5, respectively.

The heartbreaking incident occurred near Barden Gabas Primary School, in close proximity to Tirwun Quarters, within the Bauchi metropolis. DAILY POST reports that the fire outbreak comes just days after a similar tragedy in Maraku village, Zubuki Ward, Itas/Gadau Local Government Area, where two lives were lost to a fire outbreak.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the fire started around 11:00 am on Sunday. Tragically, the children's mother had left them locked inside the house while she attended to errands, possibly at the market. By the time she returned, the house was engulfed in flames.

Despite valiant efforts to rescue the children, the intensity of the fire and thick smoke thwarted all attempts. Even the arrival of the state fire department failed to contain the blaze.

While the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, a resident of Madina Quarters, Usman Abdullahi (Dan Usmanu), expressed disbelief at the tragic turn of events, noting that it was unusual for the mother to leave her children unattended in such a manner.

The community, reeling from the loss, bid farewell to the innocent victims as they were laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites. As the Madina Quarters community mourns the untimely departure of these precious lives, questions linger about the circumstances leading to the fatal fire and how such tragedies can be prevented in the future.
