In a tragic incident on the Kaduna-Zaria expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, reports that six individuals lost their lives, while 11 sustained injuries in a road crash.

The Sector Commander, Mr. Kabir Nadabo, shared the details with the News Agency of Nigeria, revealing that the unfortunate accident occurred at Aliko filling station on the Kaduna-Zaria expressway around 06:25hrs on a Tuesday.

According to Nadabo, the multiple accidents were attributed to speeding and dangerous driving, resulting in the temporary halt of motorists' movement. The Sector Commander informed that the road is now free and clear for movement, thanks to the prompt response of the Zebra 35 Rigachikun rescue team, which conducted the rescue operation.

Nadabo provided insights from the initial investigation, stating that 23 people were involved in the crash, with 11 sustaining injuries and tragically, all six fatalities. The incident involved a Toyota bus traveling from Ilesha to Batsari in Katsina State. The driver, reportedly at high speed, lost control and collided with another moving vehicle, leading to the crash.

Expressing sadness over the incident, Nadabo emphasized that most road traffic crashes on the highway involve motorists from other states, attributing them to factors like fatigue. As the lead agency in transport management and road safety, the FRSC in Kaduna State is committed to its duty of saving lives, properties, and creating awareness about the dangers of road safety lapses.

Nadabo stressed the importance of education on road safety and ethical road culture, especially during the yuletide season. Recognizing Kaduna State as a critical corridor, the state Command has implemented safety measures to guide transporters and promote safe travels.

The FRSC is actively engaging with stakeholders, particularly transport unions, to advocate for safety practices among drivers. Additionally, the corps is collaborating with media outlets to inform the public about the dangers of dangerous driving, overloading, driving with worn-out tires, and fatigue caused by long journeys.

In closing, the sector commander appealed to all road users to adhere to safe driving ethics at all times, reinforcing the message that increased education and awareness can contribute to reducing road traffic crashes. Stay tuned for further updates on road safety initiatives in Kaduna State.
