In a recent press briefing held in Abuja on Tuesday, the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagun, declared the party's intention to impose sanctions on members engaged in anti-party activities, including the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Damagun emphasized that the party leadership possesses the authority to take action against those involved in activities contrary to the party's interests. Addressing Wike's case specifically, the chairman asserted, "Our stand about Wike... as long as you are a member of the PDP, there is a time for everything."
Acknowledging the need for stability within the party, Damagun stressed his commitment to preventing crises. He added, "When things go out of hand, we will act. But meanwhile, we still see it within the ambit of the law." He further warned that other individuals who worked against the party would also face sanctions when the time comes.
To address these concerns, Damagun revealed that the party has established a panel tasked with investigating members involved in anti-party activities. This panel, according to the chairman, will review the events of 2023 and compile a comprehensive report, not limited to a single individual but encompassing everyone who played a role in anti-party activities.
Assuring transparency and accountability, Damagun stated, "After that, we will see what kind of measure to take." The party aims to handle the matter judiciously without plunging into unnecessary crises, considering the ongoing litigation within the party.
The move to address anti-party activities underscores the PDP's commitment to maintaining internal discipline and cohesion, with the party leadership determined to take corrective measures when required.
