No fewer than five people, including elderly women, were beaten to death by youths from Ndon Nwong community in Odukpani Local Government, Cross River State on the allegation that they were witches.

The victims were accused of being witches and were taken to the village square where they were beaten to death without any resistance.

The incident took place on Thursday evening, October 13. One of the victims was identified as a widow, Mrs. Asuquo Iya. Her husband was said to have passed on last year.

A relative of one of the victims who spoke with newsmen called on security operatives to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

It is informative to note that Cross River and Akwa Ibom states are well known for publicly disgracing women and children as witches.
