Team Nigeria got off to a perfect start in the table tennis event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Friday.



Edem Offiong won her women’s singles event game 3-0 (11-1, 11-2, 11-3), against Cumberbatch of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Tosin Oribamise also defeated Delpesche of St Vincent and the Grenadines 11-2, 11-3, 11-2.

In the men’s singles event, Aruna Quadri cruised into the next round after a three-set win against South Africa’s Jones Shoun.

Quadri won the group game, 11-6, 11-3, and 12-10.

Also, Olajide Omotayo defeated South Africa’s Nathoo C.O. in three sets (11-9, 11-6, and 11-6).

In the women’s doubles event, Fatimo Bello and Edem defeated their opponents, Velox and Cumberbatch, from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 11-6, 11-2, and 11-5.

Omeh Amadi and Olajide won their first group game in the men’s doubles against South African duo, Cogill Theo and Nathoo.

Nigeria won in three sets, 11-5, 11-5, and 11-5.
