Carlos Queiroz has stepped down as Egypt's national team coach after the country failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
The Pharaohs were defeated 3-1 on penalties by Senegal in the second leg of their playoff on Tuesday.
The match concluded 1-0 after 120 minutes and 1-1 on aggregate, barely over three weeks after the North Africans were eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon on penalties by Senegal.
It would have been Egypt's fourth World Cup appearance.
Due to the failure to qualify, Queiroz's tenure as coach has come to an end.
"The dream is over," he tweeted. My thanks to the Egypt Federation for the opportunity to coach the National Team comes from the bottom of my heart. My heartfelt gratitude and acknowledgment go out to all of my players and staff. You will always have a place in my heart. It was an honor to work alongside such devoted and talented professionals, as well as good friends.
In September, Queiroz was named national team coach, and he supervised a mixed performance at the 2021 AFCON.
