Reece James, the captain of Chelsea, will be sidelined for the start of the upcoming Premier League season due to suspension.
This follows his straight red card during Chelsea's 2-1 victory over Brighton, where he was sent off for kicking out at Joao Pedro just 19 minutes after being subbed on.
Referee Michael Salisbury, upon VAR intervention, deemed the offense serious enough to warrant a straight red card after consulting the pitchside monitor.
This marks James' second sending off this season, resulting in a four-match ban. As a result, he will miss Chelsea's final Premier League match against Bournemouth and the first three matches of the next season.
