Chelsea are currently engaged in discussions with the Premier League, as they seek to agree a financial settlement for payments made when Roman Abramovich was still owner of the club.

The Blues would rather make the payment than face a points deduction.

Under Abramovich, secret monies had been paid as it concerns certain transfer.

The new Chelsea owners discovered this back in 2022 during their takeover process.

However, they quickly reported it to the Premier League and they are hoping their transparency will stand them in good stead.

An outcome of the negotiations is expected before the end of March.

Secret payments relating to transfers would usually lead to tough sanctions, like a points deduction.

But Chelsea insist that any rule breaches took place under a different ownership at least a decade ago.

And according to the UK Times, Chelsea are confident they can strike an agreement.

Chelsea previously agreed a similar £8.6million financial settlement with UEFA back in July 2023.

That came after the club “submitted incomplete financial information”.
