The Premier League has charged Everton for an alleged breach of financial fair play rules.

This follows a 10-month investigation into the Merseyside club’s transfer spending.

Clubs can only lose a maximum of £105 million across three years according to the rules.

But in May 2022, Burnley and Leeds United wrote a joint letter to question whether rules had been breached.

Everton have recorded losses of £372 million in the past three years, citing the coronavirus as a key reason.

However, they have now been charged with alleged breach of the same rules champions Manchester City were charged with last month.

Everton insist they haven’t done anything wrong and said they will “strongly contest” the charge.

If found guilty, the Toffees could be fined or face a significant points deduction. An independent commission will evaluate the charges before making a decision.
