AS Roma defender Chris Smalling has revealed what manager Jose Mourinho told his players after their Europa League final defeat to Sevilla.
Roma lost in a penalty shootout against Sevilla after the match ended in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday in Hungary.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Smalling said that Mourinho was very proud of Roma's players and told them to be strong after losing the Europa League final to Sevilla.
Smalling said, “It’s a big disappointment. It’s hard to lose on penalties, which are a lottery. We were determined to win, and we left everything on the pitch.
“There is sadness and disappointment in everyone because we fought hard to get to the final. Seeing others celebrate will stay with us for a long time. We have to try to have another chance next season.”
The former Manchester United star added, “Mourinho was very proud of us at the end of the game. He said, "We have always been together, and we must be strong because we win and lose together.”
