A section of fans has backed Cameroon's Vincent Aboubakar to win the tournament in the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Aboubakar was part of his side's team that secured a thrilling 3-3 draw against Serbia in an epic Group G clash played at the Al Janoub Stadium on Monday, November 28.

The former Porto and Besiktas forward came off the bench to inspire the Indomitable Lions to a vital result.

At the time, the African football giants were trailing Serbia 3-1 after Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic had just swept home his first goal of the tournament.

Mitrovic's goal gave Serbia a two-goal advantage over Cameroon and looked set to cart home the three points.

However, the introduction of Aboubakar changed the matrix, with the Cameroonian star pulling one back for his side in the 63rd minute.

Aboubakar's goal was no ordinary finish, as the 30-year-old employed a piece of art and skill to find the back of the net.

The Cameroonian ace spectacularly beat the offside trap before latching onto a perfect pass and calmly scooping an audacious strike over the top of a helpless Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who was between the sticks for Serbia.

His goal sparked suggestions from a section of fans who claimed Aboubakar should be awarded the goal of the season prize.

One said:

“Aboubakar with the goal of the tournament."

A second added:

"That Aboubakar goal might just be goal of the tournament."

Another observed:

“Aboubakar with one of the best performances by an individual player in this World Cup."
