He’s better than Declan Rice – Dean Saunders names England’s best midfielder
Former Liverpool attacker Dean Saunders has named Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as England’s best midfielder.
Saunders believes Alexander-Arnold, who currently plays as a right-back for Liverpool, is better than Rice, who is set to join Arsenal from West Ham United this summer.
Naijacrawl recalls that Alexander-Arnold impressed in his central-midfield role for Liverpool and England towards the end of last season.
However, it looks likely that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will revert him to right-back when the 2023–24 Premier League season starts next month.
“I think that Trent is the best English midfield player in England. I think he is better than all of them,” Saunders told talkSPORT.
“If you play him in midfield, he can do everything that Declan Rice does, but he can also hit passes that Thiago [Alcantara] hits and sees.
“If I were Jurgen Klopp, I would buy a right-back and play Trent in midfield.
“I think that Trent [Alexander-Arnold] was brought up as a midfield player. He ended up at fullback, but he knows what to do.”
