Nigerian defender Kenneth Omeruo is calling for his fellow countryman, Ademola Lookman, to be named the 2024 CAF Player of the Year.
This comes after Lookman’s sensational performance in Atalanta's 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final.
Lookman was the standout star, netting all three goals in the thrilling match, making him the first African player to score a hat-trick in the final of a major European competition. His stellar performance not only helped Atalanta lift the trophy but also secured his place in the history books.
The 26-year-old winger has been in remarkable form throughout the year, also playing a pivotal role in Nigeria's journey to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they finished as runners-up. Lookman scored three goals in seven matches during the tournament, further solidifying his reputation as a top-tier player.
Reacting to Lookman's recent achievements, Kenneth Omeruo took to social media to advocate for his recognition. He wrote, "@CAF_Online your Africa Player of the Year..@ALookman_ top player."
With his exceptional contributions both in club and international football, Lookman is certainly a strong contender for the prestigious award.
