At least eight top European clubs had representatives watch Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni score a brace at the weekend – including Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United.
Tchouameni is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in French football. The 22-year-old has had an impressive campaign in Ligue 1, whilst also breaking into the French national side. Now, a number of clubs are said to be targeting a summer move for the highly-rated youngster.
At least eight clubs sent scouts to watch Tchouameni perform against Lille in the league on Friday.
The midfielder was in fine form as he grabbed a match-winning brace, his side defeating their opponents 2-1.
Liverpool, who have approached Monaco over his availability, had scouts in the stands at Stade Pierre Mauroy. However, they were joined by a number of other Premier League club representatives.
Man City, Man United, and Chelsea also had scouts sent to watch Tchouameni in action. Arsenal and Newcastle were also in attendance, but it is not confirmed who they were sent to watch.
Elsewhere in Europe, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid were also in France to witness a man of the match performance. Bayern Munich also had representatives watching the youngster, meaning at least eight clubs were sent to specifically witness the goalscorer.
Monaco are reportedly open to selling their star this summer. However, his services will not come cheap.
The French club have reportedly attached a £59m price tag to the midfielder. With so many teams, including Liverpool, interested, clubs will have to respond quickly to the price if they are serious about recruiting the decisive playmaker.
Aurelien Tchouameni admits Pogba's "inspiration"
Following the Lille match-up, Tchouameni told the media how his game was inspired by French teammate Paul Pogba.
The youngster has drawn comparisons to the Man Utd midfielder already in his career.
And speaking to Prime Video, Tchouameni spoke of his admiration for the 29-year-old – as well as Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
Speaking about his goals, he said: “I missed my first chance with a header and then I missed my shot with the right foot." So I wanted to try the left foot (laughs).
“Inevitably, this left-footed goal is good, but I worked a lot on the shots with the coach, so it’s a gift for him."
“I am inspired by Paul [Pogba] on the offensive aspect. but also by other players in Europe, like Kevin De Bruyne. "With Youssouf, we alternate between matches; sometimes he’s lower, sometimes it’s me.”
A midfielder would fit in the Premier League.
Tchouameni has all the attributes required to fit into Premier League football.
While he is a defensive midfielder by trade, his game-winning brace on Friday showed that he can turn a game on its head with goals too.
In fact, WhoScored has given him five Man of the Match awards in Ligue 1 this season.
As for his defensive attributes in particular, Tchouameni has won an average of 2.3 aerial duels per game in Ligue 1.
He has also averaged 2.5 key tackles and 2.9 interceptions per game. Any Premier League team with title ambitions requires a solid defensive midfielder, and Tchouameni fits the bill.
