The striker was linked with Chelsea and Juventus during pre-season and reveals that a move had been in the offing until Everton pulled the plug on selling their star man

Romelu Lukaku has revealed that a Premier League club were "really keen" to sign him in the summer, only for Everton to prevent a sale.

Chelsea were strongly linked with their former employee after scoring 45 goals in two seasons since leaving in a deal worth 28 million.

Juventus were also credited with interest before parting with 90 million to sign Gonzalo Higuain.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman, who recently drew ire from fans after claiming that Lukaku is good enough to play for Barcelona, is credited as keeping the 23-year-old at Goodison Park.

"I'm not going to lie. There was a specific club in England who was really keen to buy me," Lukaku told Sport/Voetbalmagazine.

"But Everton's new staff made me understand they didn't want me to leave. What can you do when that happens?"

Lukaku is open to a move abroad to realise his career aims and is desperate to win a league title but notes that the choice of club must suit his own game if he is to succeed.

"That's the trophy I want, that's what I work for, to win that title," he added.

"I would not say no to Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 or the Bundesliga but, before such a move, several conditions need to be met.

"First I need a coach to work with who believes in me as there is no point in signing for someone and then realise on the spot that the system is not designed for me."
