Clean sheets shouldn't be the major yardstick in measuring the abilities of a goalkeeper, but the total number of saves accumulated, because it is not favourable to other goalkeepers.Â
Â
Any team that has a very good defensive backline are very likely to concede less, it doesn't channel down to the goal keeper heroics, that's why goal keepers like Neuer, Buffon are less likely to be called into action compared to David de Gea because of their good defensive backline, compared to De Gea who for the past two season has been the cog in the wheel.
Â
If they continue to use number of clean sheets and not the total number of saves amassed, if i'm at a club like Barca, Juve and Bayern as a goalkeeper then my name will pop first before De Gea and Courtois.
