Edouard Mendy’s fingertip stop against Brentford has made the shortlist for the Premier League’s Save of the Season award.

The Blues keeper is recognised for an incredible intervention against the Bees back in October which preserved all three points for Thomas Tuchel’s side across town in west London.

With the visitors in front courtesy of Ben Chilwell, a big effort was required to keep our lead intact and Mendy was at the forefront of repelling the Premier League new boys with a string of impressive saves. The pick of the bunch came late in added time when Christian Norgaard attempted a textbook bicycle kick which looked to be dipping just under the crossbar.

The Senegalese stopper promptly threw himself with great agility to push the ball over with his fingertips, ensuring another clean sheet and an important victory.

Two other saves from Chelsea matches feature on the shortlist. Jordan Pickford’s smart reactions to deny Cesar Azpilicueta at Goodison Park earlier this month earn the England goalkeeper a nomination, while Bernd Leno gets a nod for his effort in pushing Romelu Lukaku’s header onto the crossbar in August’s London derby at Arsenal.

The other contenders are Alisson, David De Gea (for two different saves), Aaron Ramsdale, Emiliano Martinez, Martin Dubravka and Nick Pope. The winner will be announced this Saturday 28 May.
