The best player in football history, according to Sergio Ramos of Paris Saint-Germain, is Lionel Messi, not Cristiano Ronaldo, his former teammate at Real Madrid.
Ramos acknowledged that he had difficulty playing against Messi when they were both representing Real Madrid and Barcelona in the Spanish La Liga.
Ramos, who has long regarded Messi as the greatest player in football history, is glad to finally be competing alongside the Argentine World Cup winner after years of playing against him.
In a number of El Clasico matches, the two players faced off against one another.
Ramos was dismissed from the game in the dying seconds of Barcelona's 5-0 victory over Real Madrid in 2010 after a nasty foul on Messi.
In 2017, the Spanish center-back was also dismissed for lunging two feet at Messi.
When the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner was caught by the defender's flailing arm in 2019, Ramos and Messi got into a fight.
Before their teammates could separate them, the two began to argue.
The understandably feisty relationship is well behind them, though, as they now team up on the same side at PSG.
Speaking about Messi, Ramos told PSG TV (via GOAL): “There was suffering for several years playing against Messi.
“I am now enjoying him." "He is the best player football has ever produced.”
