Tragedy has hit the ongoing National Sports Festival in Asaba, the Delta State capital, following the death of a boxer representing Imo State, Chukwuemeka Igboanugo.

Chukwuemeka died after losing a fight in a knockout with Anambra boxer Prince Gaby Amagor in the 86 kg category.

The referee had to stop the fight when the deceased failed to recover after receiving a punch in the chin.

According to a report from the Delta State capital, the deceased was immediately taken out of the ring for medical treatment before being rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
