The best thing that has happened in Angel di Maria's illustrious career thus far is playing with compatriot Lionel Messi at the Argentina national team and Paris Saint-Germain, according to the former Real Madrid winger.
During their time at PSG, Messi and Di Maria, both 35, played together for just one season.
But in the 2021–2022 season, the former Juventus and Manchester United star struggled to find consistent playing time.
Di Maria started 22 out of 31 matches across competitions for the French Ligue 1 champions.
“The best thing that happened in my career is that I played with Leo Messi [Lionel Messi] in the national team and club,” Di Maria said (via Albiceleste Talk).
He added, “I participated with him [Messi] for a year in the club and did not play. I knew that if he came, I wouldn’t play much.”
Di Maria is close to joining Benfica after departing Juventus as a free agent this summer, while Messi will join MLS side Inter Miami when his contract with PSG expires at the end of this month.
