Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the club’s captain, Harry Maguire, to leave Old Trafford this summer to salvage his career.
Ferdinand believes it would be a terrible move for Maguire if he remained at Manchester United this summer transfer window.
Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in the summer of 2019 for a record £80 million.
The England defender has fallen down the pecking order under current Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag due to his inconsistency and errors that lead to goals.
Ten Hag has preferred the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, and even Luke Shaw at times at center-back over Maguire.
“If Harry Maguire doesn’t go, I think it’s a terrible move from him. He has to be wanting to get out there and play,” Ferdinand said on his FIVE (via Manchester Evening News).
“Before the season started, I would have said Newcastle would take him in a heartbeat. I’d be surprised if Newcastle took him now.”
