Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has praised Jonny Evans for exceeding expectations since rejoining the Premier League club.

Evans, aged 36, returned to United last summer on a short-term deal, eight years after his initial spell. So far, he has featured in 17 matches across all competitions, starting 12 Premier League games.

Ferdinand remarked, "He's been arguably our best defender this year, which is quite something. When he first signed, I was skeptical. But he's proven himself every time he's been on the pitch."

Speaking to Cool FM News, Ferdinand added, "He surprised himself with the amount of game-time he's had, but he's consistently delivered when called upon."
