The Falconets of Nigeria secured a 1-1 draw against Tanzania in the first leg of the third round of the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Sunday.
Chioma Olise scored for the Falconets in the 60th minute, but Asnath Ubamba equalized for Tanzania in the 71st minute. The second leg is scheduled to take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Sunday, 19 November 2023.
The Falconets advanced to the third round with a walkover as Mauritius withdrew before the first leg. Africa will be represented by four teams at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia. In the 2022 U-20 Women’s World Cup, the Falconets reached the quarter-final but were defeated 2-0 by the Netherlands.
