Argentina national team were axed from the world cup yesterday by France, after a brilliant display by Kylian Mbappe.
The Argentines struggle to level up in the last minute but failed to, and the match ended 4-3 in favour of France. This has ended the hope of Lionel Messi lifting the world cup. The world cup is one of the major trophy he hasn't won in his career, and because of that, there will be question of if he is the greatest of ahead of Pele and Maradona.
Many believed 2018 world cup will be his last appearance for the Argentina national team and might announce his retirement. His fellow compatriot, Javier Mascherano has announced his retirement but nothing has come from Messi.
Messi will be focused in his return to Barcelona and be ready for the new season showdown.
Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal were also eliminated by Uruguay, from a scintillating performance from another PSG player, Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez. The game ended 2-1 in favour of the Uruguayans.
This also ended Ronaldo's hope of lifting the world cup, as it also remains one of the trophy he hasn't won in his career. Although Ronaldo hasn't voiced out on retiring from international football but considering the age factor, he might be giving it a deep thinking. Few days after the world cup began, Ronaldo hinted that who says he won't be available for Qatar 2022, he's fit and he can play as long as he wish.
Just like Messi, Ronaldo will be focused on his club return and speculation about his move out of Santiago Bernabeu be put to rest.
