According to Segun Agboola, fewer kids in Oyo State are not attending school as a result of the N3,000 annual fee in public schools being eliminated.

This disclosure was made by Agboola, the Mafoya Oluwanbe Pelumi Foundation's founder, during a press conference on Wednesday in Ibadan.

According to The Daily Post, Gov. Makinde abolished the N3,000 mandatory annual fee in all public secondary schools a few years ago.

Abiola Ajimobi, the outgoing governor, was the one who first proposed the fee.

Agboola, who is a member of the Ibadan Progressive Union (IPU), has attributed the reduction in out-of-school children to the cancellation of the fee.

According to Agboola, “Education is one of the major pillars of development. The N3,000 yearly fee has reduced the number of out-of-school children in the state. Over 60,000 children who were out of school are now back in school.”

Speaking further, he said: "The Mafoya Oluwanbe Pelumi Foundation is calling for the re-introduction of literary and debating societies in schools.

“There should be awards for students and schools that win during the competitions." "The students should be given scholarships.”

He also added: “Fundamental use of language should also come back." No government can do everything; there should be participation from all stakeholders.”
