Famous Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has clinched a historic win in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency election.
Running under the banner of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo defeated the incumbent, Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a decisive victory.
The results of the parliamentary election, held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, during Ghana’s general elections, saw Dumelo securing an impressive 40,561 votes, while Alhassan garnered 27,377 votes.
This marks a triumphant comeback for Dumelo, who previously contested for the seat in 2020 but narrowly lost to Alhassan.
A celebrated figure in the entertainment industry, Dumelo began his acting journey in 1991 while still a student. Over the years, he has starred in numerous blockbuster Ghanaian (Gollywood) and Nigerian (Nollywood) films, earning him a massive following across Africa.
His victory not only reflects his popularity but also signifies a shift in the political landscape of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
