Burna Boy becomes the first artist on Boomplay to reach 500 million streams.

Burna Boy has set a new record by surpassing half a billion streams on Boomplay in less than three months after the release of his eagerly awaited sixth studio album, Love Damini. He is the first artist to accomplish this illustrious feat. The number one music streaming and download service recently made the announcement on their official social media pages.

One of the most digitally consumed music artists to date, Burna is renowned for his flawless songwriting and vocal prowess. His Boomplay music streams have skyrocketed over the past year, aiding in his ascent to 500 million streams.

This significant accomplishment, along with other works like his most recent album Love Damini, Twice as Tall, African Giant, and other singles, all help to contribute to his streaming imprint on Boomplay reaching over half a billion.

The Grammy-winning musician had a standout 2022 thanks to a number of international chart-topping debuts. One of his most commercially successful albums to date is "Love Damini," which is currently available. Across a marathon of 19 tracks, heartbreak, grief, anxiety, politics, sex, and love all take their places on the stage, to varying effects.

Burna’s lead single off Love Damini, “Last Last,” has also been hinted as currently the most revered single in 2022.

Speaking on this monumental feat, the Director of Artiste & Media Relations at Boomplay, Tosin Sorinola, commented that “It has been incredible witnessing the increasing levels of growth in music consumption and streaming." Our artists are putting in the work, and the results are paying off. As an African-facing platform, we are excited because it means we are growing significantly faster, which we think is
This is great for the industry and signals room for more groundbreaking achievements. "

With this milestone announcement, Burna Boy is well on his way to unlocking the #BoomplayPlatinumClub, an honorary category which seeks to celebrate records and artists with billions of streams. Notably, Kizz Daniel, Omah Lay, and Fireboy follow Burna Boy closely in this stead, and it’s only a matter of time before we know who will be the first to enter the Billions club.
