Canadian sans Think Twice singer Celine Dion has opened up about her 17-year battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a condition she kept private until recently.
In an interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today Show, Dion shared how she managed her illness in secret while also supporting her late husband, Rene Angelil, through his cancer battle and raising their children.
The 56-year-old singer first disclosed her diagnosis in 2022 but revealed that her symptoms began as early as 2008. "We did not know what was going on with me. I did not take the time... I should have stopped and figured it out," Dion admitted.
She described the overwhelming challenges she faced, saying, "And like it wasn’t enough, my husband was fighting for his own life. I had to raise my kids, I had to hide, I had to try to be a hero – while feeling my body leaving me. [I was] holding on to my own dreams."
Dion explained that she eventually decided to share her struggle because keeping it from her fans was a significant burden. Recently, she described her condition, saying it feels like she’s "being strangled."
