Beloved Hollywood actress Maggie Smith, cherished for her iconic roles in the Harry Potter series and Downton Abbey, has passed away at the age of 89.
She died peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by loved ones. The news of her passing was shared by her children, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens.
In a heartfelt statement, they said, "An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother. Her illustrious career spanned decades, earning her two Academy Awards: Best Actress for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie in 1969 and Best Supporting Actress for *California Suite* in 1978.
