The unethical behavior of the staff at the Doren Specialist Hospital in Ajah during Rico Swavey's final moments has been the subject of an investigation by the Lagos State Government.
On Wednesday, Patrick Fakoya was hurt horribly in an accident. On Thursday, he passed away from his illness.
As he fought for his life, the former Big Brother Naija housemate was captured on camera by one of the on-call nurses.
The nurses can be heard chatting after an unconscious Rico is put on oxygen while sitting in a chair. One urged them to carry Rico onto the bed.
“You people should stop making the videos." Somebody is dying; you people are making videos, "she scolded her colleagues."
The footage sparked anger on social media, with members of the public demanding a probe. Some share similar experiences of negligence in Nigerian hospitals.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced that the authorities had commenced an investigation.
“That hospital is not a government hospital; we have started an investigation into the unprofessional conduct of those who appeared in that video,” Omotoso said.
