The Senior Pastor of The Covenant Nation (TCN) and convener of The Platform Nigeria, Poju Oyemade, has countered Nigerians dragging the popular gospel singer Mercy Chinwo for allegedly charging huge amounts to sing at churches.
A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Chinenye Oluoma, discussed in a trending video how gospel superstars like Chinwo monetise their ministrations in church.
Oluoma, who lashed out at gospel musicians who demand huge payments to perform in a place of worship, claimed that Chinwo charges N10 million to minister at worship centres.
His claim has been generating mixed reactions from concerned citizens who took to social media to state their opinions on the matter.
Wading into the controversy, Pastor Oyemade revealed in a tweet on his official handle that the singer had last Sunday ministered in his church without pay.
He wrote: “Mercy Chinwo sang at our service at Lekki last Sunday, and the honorarium we gave was at our discretion. She made NO formal charges.”
