The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Rabi Talatu Umar, raised concern on Friday that some convicts at the Bauchi Custodial Centre do not have appropriate records of their trials.

Umar also expressed concern that some of the awaiting trial inmates have not been seen by the courts in years, causing their records to fall into disarray.

He ascribed their release to God's intervention in their circumstances when speaking to 14 awaiting trial inmates at the correctional centre on Friday.

Justice Umar was making routine visits to correctional facilities across the state to evaluate the cases of awaiting trial detainees, particularly those who had remained in the facilities for an extended period of time without being tried.

The Chief Judge visited Tafawa Balewa, Darazo, Misau, Azare, Bogoro, Ningi, Jama'are, and Bauchi, where she released five (5) detainees at Tafawa Balewa, two (2) each at Misau and Azare, and 14 at the Bauchi centre, according to Naijacrawl.

During the visit, none of the convicts at Jamare, Ningi, Darazo, or Bogoro were able to regain their freedom.

"We don't know who brought them here," the Chief Judge said, referring to some of the awaiting trial detainees whose legal histories were completely hidden.

He advised the inmates who had been released pending trial to seek genuine employment.
