In a devastating turn of events, suspected Fulani gunmen launched a violent attack on Agojeju-Odo, a community nestled in Omala Local Government Council within Kogi East Senatorial District.

The assailants, armed to the teeth, besieged the community in the early hours of Friday morning, unleashing chaos by opening fire and setting houses ablaze.

According to reports gathered by Naijacrawl, the attackers left a trail of destruction, claiming numerous lives in their wake. As of the time of this report, the grim tally stands at 27 recovered corpses, with local vigilante groups combing the bush in search of missing persons.

Shockingly, this tragic onslaught caught the community entirely off guard, leaving residents reeling from the sudden violence. Even more troubling is the revelation that concerns about a potential invasion had been circulating for weeks, with warnings brought to the attention of the Local Government Council's recently appointed caretaker chairman, Mark Edibo.

The genesis of the conflict traces back to a dispute between a local resident and a Fulani herder over damage to yam tubers by cattle, escalating into a violent altercation. Despite interventions by local authorities, tensions remained high, eventually culminating in the brutal attack that ravaged Agojeju-Odo.

In response to the crisis, the Kogi State Police swiftly mobilized a tactical squad comprising Mobile Police, Soldiers, and Vigilante members to restore order to the embattled community. While confirmation of the exact casualty figures remains pending, it's evident that numerous individuals have sustained gunshot injuries in the attack.

SP William Ovye Aya, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and assured ongoing efforts to stabilize the situation. Despite the challenges, authorities remain committed to bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety and security of affected communities.

In the wake of this harrowing tragedy, questions loom over the efficacy of local governance and the imperative for proactive measures to prevent future atrocities. As investigations continue, the collective hope is for swift action and lasting peace to prevail in Kogi East Senatorial District.
