A heartbreaking case of domestic violence in Anambra State has sparked national outrage after a woman, Chioma Nwanna, was allegedly set on fire by her husband, Sunday Nwanna, during a heated argument over infidelity accusations.
Chioma succumbed to severe burns in the early hours of Tuesday, January 28, 2025, after being hospitalized in critical condition.
Following the tragic incident in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State First Lady, Dr. Nonye Soludo, alongside human rights activist Ify Aronu-Okafor, has vowed to seek justice for the victim. A disturbing video of Chioma, shared on social media before her passing, revealed the deep distress she endured in her marriage, intensifying public outrage.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that the suspect, Sunday Nwanna, surrendered himself and is currently in custody, facing homicide charges.
Dr. Nonye Soludo, devastated by the news, has ordered a full-scale investigation and directed the Commissioners for Women and Children Affairs, Ify Obinabo, and Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, to visit the crime scene and provide continuous updates. She emphasized the urgent need for stronger measures to combat gender-based violence and protect women from such horrific acts.
