Bello Bashiru, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the election for the Bungudu West State Assembly Constituency, was proclaimed the victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara State on Monday.
The constituency's returning officer, Dr. Yahayya Alhasan, announced the results in Bungudu and noted that there were 101,375 registered voters across the six registration areas, compared to 41,671 accredited voters.
Alhassan said the candidate of the APC, Nasiru Bello, polled 14,351 votes, and his opponent from the PDP, Bello Bashiru, scored 25,678 votes.
According to him, the total number of valid votes stood at 40,434, the rejected votes were 852, and the total number of votes cast remained at 41,286.
Alhassan said Bello Bashiru of the PDP, having met the requirements of the law and gotten the most votes, was declared the winner and returned elected.
