A wave of anxiety has swept through the residents and shop owners of Oke-Baale community in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, following the gruesome murder of a middle-aged woman in the area.

The lifeless, headless body of the homeless woman was discovered behind a shopping complex situated directly opposite the Local Government Secretariat at Oke-Baale in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to Ismail Adeoye, a resident of the community, it is believed that some unidentified hoodlums, suspected to be ritual killers, dragged the woman behind the shop during the early hours of Tuesday morning. However, fear has paralyzed the residents, preventing them from confronting the perpetrators.

"One of the shop owners raised an alarm in the morning upon discovering the headless body behind her shop. The body was mutilated, missing both arms, the head, and the two breasts. The matter was promptly reported to the police," Adeoye recounted.

In the wake of the incident, shop owners in the vicinity opted to shutter their businesses out of fear of being implicated in the tragic event by law enforcement agencies.

Reports suggest that the victim had been homeless for several months, residing by the roadside in the area and surviving through begging for alms.

When reached for comment, Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, confirmed that the command had alerted the appropriate authorities to attend to the distressing discovery of the headless and armless body.

The harrowing incident has cast a pall of fear and uncertainty over the Oke-Baale community, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced security measures and vigilance to prevent such heinous crimes from recurring.
