Gunmen reportedly invaded the hotel of Ikechukwu Odono, the Chairman of the Ohaukwu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State.

The attackers took the life of one person and set ablaze at least seven cars parked on the hotel premises in Ezzangbo within the council area.

The assailants struck at approximately 11 pm on Sunday, launching an assault that continued for six hours until 5 am on Monday. During this time, they not only attacked and killed one occupant of the hotel but also engaged in sporadic shooting.

Disturbing images from the scene, shared online, revealed a pool of blood on the hotel's staircase, underscoring the gravity of the violence unleashed by the gunmen.

According to a community source who requested anonymity, "This area (Ezzangbo) has been under attack by gunmen, but the incident last night was the mother of all the attacks. The hoodlums went straight to the hotel of the Ohaukwu Local Government Area and unleashed their mayhem. Some sources mention one person killed, while others say three persons lost their lives. It was devastating."

The situation adds to the growing insecurity concerns in Ebonyi State, particularly in the Ebonyi North Zone. The recent spate of attacks, including the killing of five policemen just last week, has left residents deeply worried about the safety of the region.

A Vigilante operative from the area, preferring anonymity, provided more details, stating, "On that night, the hotel and the residence of the Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu LGA, Hon. Prince Ikechukwu Odono, were attacked by unidentified gunmen. One person, Onwe Chukwuka (aka Mature), lost his life, and another individual, Mr. Odono Peter, Cross, sustained a serious bullet wound. Additionally, nine vehicles were set ablaze."

The incident underscores the urgent need for heightened security measures in the region, and residents are left grappling with the unsettling reality of increased insecurity in their community. The authorities are expected to investigate and take swift action to address the root causes of such violent attacks.
