The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, office in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, was attacked by gunmen early on Wednesday morning.



According to a source, the thugs used improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, to set fire to the commission's headquarters.

The same local government area's police station in Nnobi was also attacked by the gunmen, along with a residence inside the station, where they killed a boy and injured a girl.

However, at the time of this report, the extent of the damage in the police station had not yet been determined.

The incidents were confirmed in a press release by DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the state police command's spokesperson.

He claimed that the attack took place at around 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, confirming that a large number of attackers arrived, and that four Toyota Sienna vehicles transported us to the scene of the incidents.

He further stated that in order to prevent similar attacks in other locations, the command had heavily deployed security personnel throughout the state.

The release read: "The Anambra State Police Command today, 1/20/2023, has reinforced security deployment in the state following an attack on the INEC office in Idemili South, Ojoto, and Nnobi Police Stations.
“The hoodlums came in their numbers by 1:45 a.m. today, 1/20/2023, with four unmarked Sienna vehicles armed with IEDs, petrol bombs, and other explosives.
“They invaded the INEC office, the police station, and the residential building in the station." Unfortunately, one boy, age 16, who was a relative of a serving policeman in the station, was murdered by the armed men, while the other, a female, age 15, sustained a gunshot injury. She has been taken to the hospital, where she is receiving treatment.
