Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano has refuted claims that he entered into an agreement with the presidency to influence the Supreme Court's judgment, which reinstated him as governor on January 12, overturning the decision of the appeal court.

In a statement released by Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson for the Kano governor, on Monday, it was emphasized that the Supreme Court's decision was based on "equity and fairness." Despite rumors suggesting a precondition of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a favorable verdict, the statement explicitly denied any such arrangement.

The statement read, "Our attention has been drawn to a misconception making rounds on social media indicating an agreement between the presidency and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the aftermath of the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed the mandate of his excellency. I wish to categorically state that Governor Yusuf did not enter any agreement or condition with anybody before the Supreme Court judgment. I therefore urge the public to dismiss the fallacy being orchestrated by enemies of progress."

Acknowledging the significance of the Supreme Court's decision, the statement highlighted that the justices delivered a landmark judgment with justice, equity, and fairness, thereby upholding the integrity of the judiciary.

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for ensuring a level playing ground for justice without interference in the judicial process. He commended the president's democratic principles and emphasized that there was no prior agreement between him and the president.

"The president should rather be appreciated for maintaining neutrality, peace, and stability in Kano," Governor Yusuf stated. He further praised President Buhari for resisting pressure from some members of his party, which contributed to a lasting atmosphere of peace in Kano.

The governor clarified that discussions with the president during various meetings focused on the development of Kano state. He affirmed the president's commitment to fostering positive outcomes for the state and expressed the continued appreciation of the people of Kano for the president's non-partisan approach in governing the nation.
