The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old individual named Benjamin Ezeukwe for orchestrating an extensive cement-price-slash scam that targeted and defrauded numerous unsuspecting Nigerians.
The arrest took place on October 19, 2023, in the Rumuolumeni area of Obio/Akpor local government area in Rivers State. This development followed weeks of rigorous investigation conducted by officers of the Area A Command of the State Command. During the arrest, law enforcement discovered crucial items in Benjamin's possession, including a Tecno phone, an iPhone, three SIM cards (one of which, 08039691980, was identified as being used for the scam), and a Toyota Avalon, which investigative efforts revealed to be acquired through the proceeds of his illicit activities.
The alleged scam took place in September 2023 when the suspect created a deceptive yet convincing online advertisement impersonating Dangote Cement, claiming a substantial price reduction. Unfortunately, numerous unsuspecting customers fell victim to this fraudulent scheme, resulting in substantial financial losses running into millions of Naira.
Further investigations into the case have uncovered that the suspect had executed several other scams with similar characteristics. As a result, the suspect has been arraigned to face legal consequences for his actions.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized the commitment of the police force to combatting fraudulent activities and ensuring that justice is served. This successful operation showcases the effectiveness of intensive investigative efforts in bringing perpetrators of scams to justice. The Lagos State Police Command remains vigilant in protecting the public from such fraudulent schemes, urging citizens to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of online advertisements to prevent falling victim to scams.
