In a swift response to an alarming incident, officers attached to the Lagos Rapid Response Squad successfully thwarted an attempt to hijack their patrol bike in Ikeja on Sunday.

The courageous actions of the police led to the apprehension of a 19-year-old suspect, Akinjobi Wahab, while four other accomplices managed to evade capture.

The command's Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, provided details of the incident in a statement issued on Sunday. According to Hundeyin, the officers, who were on patrol in plain clothes, encountered the suspect wielding a machete as he attempted to seize control of their patrol bike.

The officers' quick thinking and decisive action prevented the situation from escalating further, resulting in the arrest of the suspect. However, the search for the remaining accomplices remains ongoing.

The incident underscores the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty and highlights the importance of vigilance and preparedness in maintaining public safety. The Lagos Rapid Response Squad's effective response serves as a testament to their dedication and professionalism in safeguarding the community from criminal activities.

As investigations into the thwarted hijacking continue, the police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents in Lagos State. The apprehension of the suspect sends a clear message that attempts to disrupt public order will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will be swiftly brought to justice.
