The Lagos State Government has issued a stern 30-day final notice to owners and occupiers of residential buildings that have been illegally converted into churches, mosques, clubhouses, lounges, and bars without the necessary approvals for a change of use.

The directive mandates them to revert to the original use of the structure within the stipulated timeframe.

This notice comes as a response to the alarming distortion of the masterplan of Lagos State, particularly in residential areas, where individuals have, in blatant disregard of regulatory provisions, transformed residential spaces into clubhouses and worship centers, creating a significant disturbance to the environment.

The decision to issue the removal notice stems from growing security concerns among citizens and persistent complaints regarding the non-compliance of club owners with safety and security guidelines.

The Lagos State Government emphasizes that owners of buildings in residential areas, converted without the required approvals to churches, mosques, clubs, bars, or lounges, must ensure the evacuation of such occupants before the expiration of the 30-day final notice. The government has explicitly stated that there will be no further warning of sealing, and non-compliant buildings will face outright removal, with the associated costs borne by the owners.

This decisive action underscores the commitment of the Lagos State Government to restoring order and adherence to planning regulations, ensuring the safety, security, and overall well-being of its residents. Property owners are urged to take immediate action to comply with the directive to avoid the consequences of non-conformity. The government's dedication to upholding urban planning standards is crucial for fostering a harmonious and safe living environment for all Lagosians.
