In a bid to enhance transportation infrastructure and connectivity, the Lagos State Government is actively engaged in discussions with the Ogun government to extend the Blue Rail Line further south to Agbara.

This significant development was disclosed by Mr. Olasukanmi Okusaga, the Director of Rail Transport at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (LAMATA), during a recent inspection tour in Lagos.

Okusaga expressed his contentment with the progress achieved thus far in the ongoing construction of the Blue Line Phase 2 project, currently being executed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

Highlighting the expansion plans, Okusaga revealed ongoing discussions with the Ogun government aimed at extending the Blue Line to Agbara. The project, which was awarded in 2023, is slated for completion within three years.

The extension project encompasses the establishment of six stations at strategic locations including Festac, Alakija, Trade Fair, Volkswagen, LASU, and Okokomaiko, along with the construction of three vital bridges in Maza Maza, Satellite Town, and LASU, covering a span of 14 kilometers.

Furthermore, plans are underway to construct a depot in Okokomaiko, further enhancing the operational efficiency and maintenance capabilities of the Blue Rail Line.

This ambitious expansion initiative underscores the commitment of the Lagos State Government to revolutionize transportation infrastructure, ease commuter congestion, and foster socioeconomic development across the region. Stay tuned for more updates as this transformative project unfolds.
