The Lagos State Police have apprehended a mother named Rukayat on charges of attempting to poison her epileptic child.

According to police sources, Rukayat initially took her one-year-seven-month-old child, Wuraola, to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, expressing concerns about the child's well-being.

During the course of the medical treatment, Rukayat made a shocking confession to the attending doctor. She admitted that on March 3, she deliberately gave her child an insecticide with the hope that Wuraola would succumb to it immediately. Rukayat explained that despite exhausting various means to alleviate her child's epileptic condition, all efforts had proven futile, leading her to resort to this drastic measure.

The medical team at the hospital successfully treated the child, while Rukayat was promptly handed over to the police for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.

This distressing incident sheds light on the challenges faced by families dealing with health issues, emphasizing the importance of community support, awareness, and accessible mental health resources to prevent such tragic events in the future. The legal process will unfold as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking case.
