The family of Taiwo Owoeye, a former ophthalmic nurse at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, is grappling with profound sadness following her untimely demise in Suffolk, United Kingdom.
Reports from PUNCH Metro reveal that Taiwo was allegedly strangled to death by her husband, David Abodunde, on Tuesday, November 28.
Sources indicate that the tragic incident unfolded after Taiwo reported an assault by her husband to the police on Monday, November 27. Subsequently, when the police visited their residence the next day, they discovered Taiwo lying motionless on the living room floor. Despite efforts to revive her, paramedics declared her dead at the scene.
David Abodunde, who was reportedly inside the apartment at the time, was promptly arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife. The couple, married in 2016, had recently relocated to the UK in 2022, with David joining Taiwo earlier this year.
In a heart-wrenching Facebook post, Taiwo's brother, Alex Owoeye, announced her passing and claimed that the police investigation had concluded with David being identified as the sole perpetrator of the crime. He wrote, "According to the Suffolk Police in the UK and the available documents and records sent to us via mail and direct conversations from the UK Police, after thoroughly conducted investigations, despite being caught in the act, he (the husband) was declared the sole murderer of his wife (my sister)."
As the family mourns the loss of their beloved Taiwo, the three children of the couple are reportedly under the care of UK social services. The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the challenges faced by victims of domestic violence and the devastating impact it can have on families.
