Dr.
Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has reported receiving death threats from individuals claiming to be supporters of Simon Ekpa. In a recent statement, Ogbonnia detailed the alarming situation:
"Over the past four days, I have been bombarded with phone calls from unknown individuals accusing me of wanting to kill Mr. Simon Ekpa. They have threatened to kill me first," Ogbonnia revealed.
He dismissed the accusations as "ridiculous, malicious, mischievous, and satanic," clarifying that he neither has the capacity nor the intent to harm anyone. "I am not trained as a soldier, police officer, or in any paramilitary organization. At my age, I cannot even kill a fly, let alone someone like Mr. Simon Ekpa," he stated.
Ogbonnia emphasized his role as the spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, underscoring his commitment to representing Igbo interests and Ohanaeze's positions on national issues. He reiterated his stance against the sit-at-home orders in the South East of Nigeria, arguing that these actions have caused more harm than good to the Igbo community.
He also clarified that Ohanaeze Ndigbo is a persuasive, not coercive, organization and thus lacks the capacity to enforce or halt such orders. "If the federal government believes that the security of Nigeria is being threatened by any individual or group, it is the government’s duty—not Ohanaeze's—to take necessary action," Ogbonnia concluded.
